"News Central" came to Hoyt Sherman Place!
On September 27, 2008, 7:30 PM, Harmony Central Chorus took the stage at Hoyt Sherman Place Theater to present its annual show, "News Central", an evening of light musical entertainment for the whole family! Set in a not-too-unfamiliar town in a not-too-distant decade, the members of Harmony Central Chorus brought the local newspaper office to life … with songs about good news, falling in love, passage of time, life, falling out of love, religion bad news, society news, the classifieds and more!
The guest quartet on this show was Capri, 5th place finalists and Audience Choice Award winners at Sweet Adelines' International competition in 2007.
This highly acclaimed chorus, under the artistic direction of Cheryl Doser of
Windsor
Heights and Diana Latch of Ankeny, is composed of nearly 45 auditioned female singers from throughout
Central Iowa. This year's show will present an outstanding collection of musical favorites, including “Anything Goes,” “Mississippi Squirrel,” “Good-bye World,” and “The Rhythm of Life,” all delivered with trademark precision and flair in distinctive barbershop and a cappella harmonies.
Harmony Central Chorus is Des Moines' and
Central Iowa's premier women's chorus, providing the finest in a cappella and barbershop harmonies. This award-winning chorus has provided
Central Iowa women with the opportunity to perform and compete both regionally and internationally since 1956. Made up of a diverse group of women of all ages, Harmony Central most recently won second place in the mid-sized chorus division at its
four-state regional competition. Not only does this group offer a unique opportunity for women to sing and perform, there are many leadership opportunities available both musically and administratively. We invite divas who are looking for an opportunity to sing to join us on Tuesday evenings at our rehearsal site at Southridge Mall (S.E. 14th and Army Post Road) from 7:00 - 10:00 pm.
